About the Item

Signed, dated, and titled in pencil with artist's copyright stamp on verso, blind-stamped on recto. Includes black frame. Taken on August 11, 1939, this is Horst's most recognizable image and was featured in issues of both American French Vogue that year. The model, Madame Bernon, is shown wearing a sensually laced corset by Detolle for Mainbocher. Horst was inspired by the Greco-Roman proportions and classical stylings of his colleague and mentor, George Hoyningen-Huene.
