About the Item
This is a 12" x 18.5" archival giclée print on a 17" x 22" archival exhibition paper. It shows a street car conductor looking through the window of one of the New Orleans historic street cars. It is part of a limited edition of 10 plus 2 AP.
Fievet's fascination with vibrant urban life led him to explore the city of New Orleans several times. This photograph is part of a series documenting the "life" of the four streetcar lines that operate in the city. It is a portrait of the historic vehicle as well as its daily inhabitants, often taken as the car is moving, to underline the transient nature of the subject. Two other editions are available. An 11 x 14 inches, edition of 20. And a 39.5 x 59 inches, edition of 6
Jean-Luc Fievet is best known for his black and white photographs portraying people and everyday street life. His work is marked by both an expressionistic approach for the close-up portraits, as well as a documentary freshness for the street scenes portraying the every-day life of different urban realities.
Jean-Luc’s journey into photography began by recording intimate moments of his family and the families of close friends. When he moved to Paris he discovered a new world that he adopted immediately, the city. His work then led him to New York, where he settled permanently. He states: “Photography for me is a constant exploration of powerful emotions, of sensuality, of the reality around me and the dreams within.”

African American Man on Street, 1989 - Black and White Photographic Print
By Michael Ormerod
Located in Brighton, GB
African American Man on Street is a dramatic Black & White photographic print on Hahnemuhle Paper available in this size in an Edition of 10.
States of America is the photographic legacy of one of the UK’s leading photographic talents whose untimely death in 1991 ended prematurely the highly promising career of a distinctive and powerful photographic voice.
Michael Ormerod was born in Cheshire in 1947. He lived in Newcastle, but spent many years travelling America. Fascinated by the American image, and following in the footsteps of Robert Frank, Ormerod took to the American West to find a washed out dream of capitalism. His images capture a strange juxtaposition of an American beauty tainted by a hidden sense of menace and corruption.
The photographs are understated, but show an unseen America, where the industrial heartland is decaying, highways stand empty and towns are deserted. The subjects of Ormerod’s work are the disenfranchised. A teenager cycles through her neighbourhood wearing a Halloween-style hockey mask, a Native American man stands in a graveyard, their expressions are unreadable.
The work subverts traditional American icons. A white picket fence is staved in, a huge billboard for Miss Teen Dakota USA stands next to an empty highway. Inverting the famous Hollywood sign, Ormerod photographs a Texaco sign...
