About the Item
Himba women have a devotion to red ochre powder and butter fat that exceeds even the Hamer of the Omo valley in Ethiopia. They apply huge amounts to almost their entire bodies including the hair, skin and the jewellery.
This older Himba lady was at a funeral in the Kaokoland settlement of Etanga. She had a natural magnetism and warm smile.
John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and his subjects in their day to day attire.
The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look.
