about Michael Rutland (born 1934)
Michael Rutland is a British photographer and educator who lived and worked in Bhutan for many years. While better known for his scientific and educational work as Bhutan’s first physics teacher, he also created a small but important body of documentary photography. His images often depict everyday life, rituals, and landscapes of Bhutan in the 1960s and 70s, offering rare insight into a previously little-photographed culture.
