Ice Covered Rocks, The Beaches is a long-exposure photograph of ice build-up on the rocks near Woodbine Beach in Toronto, Canada. The sun, just peeking through the clouds, produces a luminance to the ice near the water's surface. This image was featured in the July, 2023 edition of Black and White Photography Magazine in the UK. It was also part of the group Black and White exhibition at Black Box Gallery in Portland, USA in 2022.
Rick Bogacz is a Toronto-based photographer specializing in pristine, meditative black
white landscape photographs. A practitioner of the Japanese philosophy of Ma – the celebration of the space between things – Rick's goal is to evoke a calming esthetic that is both gentle and elegant. Negative space becomes as important to developing the image as the key subject matter itself.

Rocks in the Water, Lakeside Park is part of a series of studies of rocks in shallow waters. This time near the city of Oakville, west of Toronto. The use of 10-stop ND filter helps to create the smooth texture of the water. Rick uses this technique often, not only for the look that it produces but also because it forces the process of producing the image in the field to slow down.

Grenadier Pond is in High Park in Toronto, which opened to the public in 1876. It spans 161 hectares (400 acres) and is the second-largest municipal park in Toronto. It is a great location for photographers and naturalists. This image was taken at around 6:30 a.m. at the park’s Grenadier Pond. A long exposure really enhances the reflection of the trees and brush at the pond’s shoreline.

Trips north of Toronto are required to get large expansive fields of fresh, untrodden snow. This image was taken at a hillside intersection near the town of Caledon, Ontario. What attracted Rick to this view was the curved lines at the base of the trees and the snowy field.
