About the Item
A fleeting gesture is held in suspension, where the surface of sand becomes both ground and trace. The formation appears almost bodily, an imprint that suggests passage, pressure, and disappearance at once. What remains is neither narrative nor destination, but a moment of stillness shaped by movement that has already passed. The image invites a slower gaze, allowing subtle tonal shifts and granular textures to reveal themselves gradually, as if the work exists somewhere between presence and erasure.
Captured through an analogue process, this photograph was made with a large-format film camera, allowing the minute details of the sand’s surface to emerge with clarity and depth. The work is printed as an archival pigment print on fine art paper, preserving the soft gradients and tactile quality of the original scene. Sandstill no.7 is offered in a limited edition of 20, at 40 × 32 cm. Each print is carefully produced, signed, numbered, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
“I am drawn to moments where nature briefly records its own gestures,” reflects Ugne Pouwell. “These formations exist only for an instant before they are altered or erased, yet within that instant there is a sense of completeness. The camera allows me to pause that moment, not to fix it permanently, but to acknowledge its quiet, transient order.”

Ugne Pouwell
Ugne Pouwell is a fine art photographer originally from Lithuania. Today she makes most of her creative work in London, United Kingdom. Her main focus is black and white landscape and floral photography. Mainly using a large format 4x5 Linhof camera to express the timeless beauty of the subject in focus. Many of the influences come from 20th-century photography. She processes her work from start to finish: film processing, scanning and printing. Her work is mainly printed on the world's oldest paper-producing houses Hahnemühle (Germany) and Awagami (Japan) and some more exclusive work on organic linen and cotton fabrics. Paper and canvas choices are mainly based on organic feeling also adding more special feeling to her work. 2016 Ugne finished her BSc studies at University of Westminster Photography and Digital imaging technologies. Continuing her practice by applying scientific knowledge to her everyday work in fine art photography.
