Candidate for U.S. Vice Presidency Acknowledges Ovation is a black and white photo realized in 1944.
In acknowledgement of the ovation accorded senator Harry S. Truman by cheering delegates a the Democratic Party's national convention, the chairman, Samuel Jackson (left), holds upthe Senator's hand. The demonstration occured when Sen. Truman, of the midwestern state of Missouri, was nominated as the democratic candidate for the U.S. Vice presidency. Previously, President Franklin D. Roosevelt received for the fourth time the Democratic nomination for the Presidency Chairmain of the Senate War Investigating Committee, Sen. Truman told the assembled delegates: "I expect to continue the efforts I have made in the Senate to help shorten the war and to win the peace under a great leader, Franklin D. Roosevelt". The two nominees will oppose the Republican Party's candidates, Governors Thomas E. Dewey of the castern state of New York, and John W. Bricker of the middlewestern state of Ohio, nominees for President and Vice President, respectively.
