This is a monochromatic limited edition photographic print by Max Garner Reidy
Elephantis was a Bull Elephant, taken in South Africa, whilst on a safari. When greeted by a small group Elephants I couldn’t help but notice how small their tusks were. I asked the ranger, why their tusks are so small. He replied “Sadly in Africa the Elephant population is now made up, predominantly of Elephants with shorter tusks. This is a result of poachers, killing longer tusked Elephants, in order to feed the illegal Ivory trade. This results in an unnatural form of “natural selection”, whereby the Elephants most likely to survive long enough to reproduce, are those with short tusks.”
