About the Item

"Factory Courtyard" by Vicki McKenna is a black and white photographic print. As part of her Resilience series the image evocates the spirit of early 20th century industry in the United States. It is a handcrafted print on 16 x 20 inch watercolor paper made using the historic platinum/palladium process. The print features rich blacks and subtle mid-tones. While printed in an edition of five, each print has unique characteristics. Image edges are crisp and defined; brush marks characteristic of the process are present in the margins. Matted at 17 x 21 inches and ready for you to frame. Stamped, dated, signed, and numbered on the verso. As a geologist and teacher, Vicki McKenna started taking photographs to illustrate concepts to her students, but soon became intrigued by the challenges of representing a three-dimensional world with an engaging, two-dimensional image. While it is not surprising that McKenna is drawn to photograph the natural landscape, her interests are broad-ranging, and a fascination with architecture means she is also interested in the built environment. McKenna is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.

Fort Tilden, Landscape Silver Gelatin Print photograph
By Miguel Winograd
Located in Miami Beach, FL
The artist looks for a path between tangled branches. Reconfiguring a personal archive of diverse Colombian landscapes, experimenting with a variety of printing materials to reconstruct a whole from these fragments, recreating a forest in the center of Bogotá. Wynograd also examines a historical archive of landscapes, the roots of his own vision. He believes that the old mimetic dream of photography is still alive. These exercises aim to weave a series of visual connections and reflect on the complex web of interdependencies between humans and nature. If there is a light of hope in the midst of overlapping crises, it is the awareness that we all belong to a whole. Perhaps these images can help in that reflection. Miguel Winograd...
