He had a reputation of master of light and shadow. Bruce Cratsley attended Swarthmore College, graduating in 1966, and then, in the early 1970s, The New School for Social Research, studying under Lisette Model. Cratsley worked for many years as a gallerist at Marlborough Gallery before quitting in 1986 to become a full-time photographer. As "Bruce Cratsley", he exhibited in various New York galleries, like: Laurence Miller Gallery, Howard Greenberg Gallery and Witkin Gallery. Cratsley was represented by Yancey Richardson Gallery, a dealer of fine art photography based in SoHo. He was photographed by Elsa Dorfman who shot many luminaries including, Allen Ginsberg, Denise Levertov, Anaïs Nin and more. In 1978 Cratsley contributed the photo sequences for the musical The Class, performed by The New Ballet School at the New York City Center. In 1980, Cratsley showed his work, Atlantic City, 1977, an August beach scene, at the 11th Anniversary show at the Witkin Gallery. In 1989 Cratsley was awarded with the Guggenheim Fellowship for Photography, US Canada. Cratsley documented gay life in NYC including his life with David Waine, who died in 1991. "I'd been photographing David since long before he became sick [...] at some point I realized that this was an extraordinary thing that was happening, and that I had an intimate relationship to it. I photographed David just a few hours before he died, not knowing what was about to happen [...] David was very spiritual [...] My pictures are a poetic, spiritualized look at AIDS". In 1995 Cratsley was included together with Barbara Norfleet, Olivia Parker and John Sturges in the list of bestselling photographer at Robert Klein Gallery...

SHIH, Quentin, (Chinese, 1975-) ''La Habana in Waiting'' Digital Archive Print sight size 43.5'' x 43.5'', framed, 45'' x 45'' Quentin Shih (Xiaofan Shi )时晓凡 born in Tianjin, China in 1975, lives and works as both a camera artist (still photo) and filmmaker between New York and Beijing. This is from a series titled La Habana (Havana, Cuba) "In the year 2012, I photographed some young people in Havana, placing them in the streets at night or in studios with colored backdrops. We were both inquisitive of the other, wondering what exactly we were doing together. Were they acting in front of my camera? Or was I directing them to achieve the image that I wanted? A camera can serve a documentary purpose but it can also embellish and create. I called this series La Habana in Waiting. It was about a kind of result - a result that all my subjects and I were waiting for - a result which is achieved through a camera lens and is called ‘photography’." A self-taught photographer, he began to shoot photos in college for local underground musicians and artists. After graduation, he came to Beijing to develop his career as a professional photographer/artist. From 2000 to 2002, he participated in exhibitions in China and America with his fine art photographic works and his works have been collected by American museums, such as the Danforth Museum of Art and the Worcester Art Museum. During the last few years, he has been producing work for top commercial clients and international publications such as Adidas, Microsoft, Sony, Siemens, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Esquire. His advertising campaigns work have won numerous prestigious international advertising and photograph awards. In 2007, Quentin was named 'Photographer of the Year' by Esquire Magazine (China). In the following years, he joined lots group exhibitions and solo exhibitions in China, Europe, Southeast Asia and United States. As one of the leading Chinese photographers, Quentin Shih is well recognized for his individual artistic style which utilizes vast sets and dramatic lighting to engage in emotional narratives. Now, he is returning to his roots in fine art photography and challenging its techniques and concepts into his commercial and fashion photography in order to achieve a unique symbiosis. At the same time, he is also working on his film projects, A Parisian Movie (2011) was his first short movie shot in Paris, France. Hatay is a visual artist, a healer and a former Rock and Roll photojournalist. Born in Scotland of a Hungarian physicist/inventor and an English art dealer, she grew up in an international environment. Her father encouraged original thinking and experimentation; her mother nourished her creativity and her intuitive skills. Leaving her home in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, for Munich, Germany, she apprenticed to Bauhaus photographer Frl. Berthe Himmler. The next step was New York City where Hatay began to freelance in all aspects of photography. It was when she photographed Jimi Hendrix at Madison Square Garden on May 18, 1969 and was inspired by his music that she got a chance to spread her wings artistically. She was initially inspired by his energy, his vision and his originality. "Jimi Hendrix was absolutely amazing - it is not possible to put words to the Experience. He was, and still is, unique. I didn't know at the time I photographed him that he was interested in his music being a healing power. I learned a lot about this aspect of Hendrix about ten years later when I met people who knew him. When they heard how much I was interested in the healing aspects of his music, they shared their stories with me. I used some of this information in my two books, Jimi Hendrix, The Spirit Lives On and Jimi Hendrix, Reflections and Visions". Nona's experimental techniques were used in her photographs on many other Rock stars, such as Tina Turner, James Brown, and Frank Zappa. She had a major exhibit of her work in Paris.
