About the Item
William Wegman (b. 1943) is an American photographer celebrated for his whimsical images of his beloved Weimaraner dogs.
This photograph is from Wegman's "Improved Photographs" series. Featuring a Weimaraner and a kitten in motion, this untitled work has a striking contrast from the artist's typically more staged scenes.
Together, the dog and cat convey a sense of mischievous urgency, presenting a much more raw dynamic than Wegman's traditionally portrait-like depictions of Weimaraners. Highly atypical, the artist has added a line or beam, either on the negative or once printed, emanating from each animal's eye.
Regardless, Wegman's humor shines through, depicting his cherished muse with sincere and candid admiration.
Wegman’s work is celebrated in prominent public collections including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Getty Museum (Los Angeles).

Andy Warhol began using the big-shot Polaroid camera in 1971 and continued using it religiously until his death in 1987. Despite the camera being discontinued in 1973, he continued to use it to capture the actors, artists, dancers, politicians, socialites, and Factory members of his world.
Warhol's Polaroids were often used as preparatory works for his iconic portraits and other artworks. They also revealed his immediate personal vision, chronicling his surroundings and social life.
Shoes were a recurring motif throughout Warhol's oeuvre and helped launch his career and reputation. He became synonymous with shoes in the mid-1950s after a successful ad campaign for Miller & Sons.
