About the Item

London #32 2022 Available Sizes: Edition of 5: 78 7/10 × 39 2/5 in 200 × 100 cm For additional sizes and pricing details, please contact the gallery. In this fine art photograph, Jacob Gils reimagines London’s iconic red telephone booth through layered motion and abstraction, transforming a familiar symbol into a luminous, vibrating form that explores memory, repetition, and the fleeting presence of urban identity. Jacob Gil’s Movement – Cities series examines the energy and momentum of urban environments through motion blur and long exposure photography. By capturing shifting light, architectural lines, and the movement of streets and crowds, Gil reduces the city to its essential rhythms. Familiar skylines and structures dissolve into layered, abstract forms, emphasizing pace, density, and atmosphere. The series reflects the constant motion of modern cities, where structure and chaos exist in continuous tension. About Jacob Gils: Jacob Gils was born in Gentofte, Denmark, in an artist family. His mother is the painter Merete Hansen and his father was the painter Ove Gils. Jacob Gils graduated from the Copenhagen School of Photography in 1989, where he assisted the Danish photographer Leif Schiller. In his early career he worked as an advertising photographer and founded the renowned photo studio Gils Photography. In 2001 he switched to an art practice and began to experiment with various techniques and forms of expression in photography.

London #8 (2012) Size: 43 x 28 inches / Edition of 6 Size: 70 x 47 inches / Edition of 3 Size: 95 x 68 inches / Edition of 1 London #8 is from the Artist's "Movement City" collection. Movement is a series which combines a strong aesthetic point of view with meticulous attention to technical detail. As the title indicates, the series is concerned with giving shape to temporal and spatial aspects inherent in all visual experience. "At first glance, these multi-point visual puzzles appear out of focus or shaken , but in fact they consist of many different and very sharp photographs of the same motif. They are carefully combined through multiple exposures, resulting in a dynamic illusion of being on-the-go. My fascination with multiple exposures began in the 1980's. In my work with analogue photography, multiple exposures would occur accidentally from time to time. Quite often, I found the visual results of these accidents to be both aesthetically fascinating and enigmatic. It is this fascination that continues to inform my work in Movement". - Jacob Gils...
