About the Item
Engulfment Series: The artist's first encounter with the abyss was arriving at a nonexistent place, a point suspended in time where nothing exists. An unreal world expands before him; here everything is devoid of identity; it is a void with volumes and textures through which I transit. The abyss is not aggressive, it is not violent, it is not tangible, but it exists: "Is the abyss merely a convenient annihilation?" It would be difficult for him to interpret the abyss, not as repose, but as emotion. The artist masks his grief with evasion; he deceives himself. He faints to escape that density, that obstruction that turns him into a responsible subject: he steps out: it is ecstasy.
I am fleeting Series: Is a project that debates through the photographic image, the importance that humans have assigned to ourselves, and proposes a reconciliation with the reality of our own insignificance. Identity is a concept that is constantly evolving and is shaped by our experiences, beliefs, and relationships. It is a fundamental aspect of our existence that is intrinsically linked to our perception of ourselves. As we navigate the world, we are constantly faced with the impermanence of life, and yet we often invest a lot of energy in how we are perceived by others. Despite our constant efforts to define ourselves, our existence is fleeting. This dichotomy between our need for identity and our impermanence is a constant source of conflict that influences how we perceive ourselves and how we are represented to the world.

Javier Rey
Javier Rey is a Colombian artist
photographer. His work has been shown in many collective exhibitions, one solo exhibition, and several international art fairs such as ArtLima (Peru), Scope Art Fair (Miami), and La Feria Del Millón (Colombia). Rey's work has also appeared in books such as "Unlocked", by the Greek collective Atopos, and was chosen as one of the 145 most relevant visual artists and photographers on the web in 2015. His photographs in which he explores the physical structure and the possibilities of sculpture through photography have been featured in several publications in Colombia, the USA, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Denmark, and other countries.
