By his early twenties, he was hailed as “Color Photography’s Wonder Boy,” with his work appearing in major publications such as Life, Look, Harper’s Bazaar, Town Country, and Vogue. Alongside contemporaries like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, Greene helped elevate fashion photography into a recognized art form. While Greene was celebrated for his fashion photography, his iconic portraits of celebrities — including Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, and especially Marilyn Monroe — are what cemented his legacy. His intimate friendship and professional partnership with Monroe led to some of the most enduring and personal images of the star, capturing her natural elegance and vulnerability. Greene’s ability to reveal the true essence of his subjects through rapport and timing made his work both timeless and deeply human. Marilyn Monroe, 1962
By Lawrence Schiller
Located in Chicago, IL
When Lawrence Schiller got the assignment from the French magazine Paris Match to photograph Marilyn Monroe on the 20th century Fox set of Something’s Got To Give, he thought nothing of it. She’d appeared in twenty-nine films by the time Schiller photographed her in black and white and color in May 1962. The world was unprepared for the moment when Marilyn jumped in the swimming pool in a flesh-colored bikini and came up out of the water au natural.
