About the Item
This early work by street photographer Mithcell Funk, shows a lone woman gazing out from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. The whole image in soaked in late afternoon light that transforms the scene into a fantasy world. Funk examines the complex interplay of light and shadow as golden rays caress the edges of all pictorial elements and reduce all forms to simple shapes. This is also a New York photograph not unlike Edward Hopper's "Early Sunday Morning" where the artist shows a sense of loneliness and desolation inside the big city or other works by Hopper like "Morning Sun" which depicts a solitary figure bathed in light gazing out into a deeper space.
