About the Item

This vibrant underwater nude photograph of a young woman wrapped in air bubbles transforms the human form into an abstract celebration of color and effervescence. Sher's masterful composition features warm golden and peach tones against brilliant turquoise waters, while countless air bubbles create a champagne-like atmosphere of celebration. The work exemplifies contemporary underwater photography's evolution into pure abstraction, where natural elements become the primary artistic focus. This piece continues the tradition of fine art photography that explores the boundary between figuration and abstraction, using water's transformative properties to create an impressionistic study of joy and liberation. "The pool was freezing cold. After 15 minutes of shooting we jumped in jacuzzi to warm up. I kept taking photographs in jacuzzi even though I could barely see in bubbles. I'm glad I did". Born in Ukraine, Sher immigrated to the United States in 1995. He began showing photographs in the early 1990s, initially concentrating on figurative art. For many years, Sher focused on the human form in deep aquatic surroundings. His more recent pieces, however, blend figurative and abstract elements, slowly evolving into abstract photography. Sher began attracting gallery attention in 2015. His first solo exhibition was held in 2016 at Bruce Lurie Gallery in Los Angeles. Since then, his work has been exhibited across Europe, North America, and Asia by distinguished galleries and museums including the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and the Natural History Museum in London. Power Pilgrimage - Birth Scene from the Farm and Ina May Gaskin (Red+Orange)
By Natalie Lennard
Located in Gilroy, CA
In 1971, three hundred hippies set off from California in a convoy of 90 trucks and schoolbuses to find a new life. The pregnant women amongst them, out a desire to treat birth as a normal part of proceedings, passed around birth manuals and learnt to deliver each others' babies on the road. It was the memory of the very first woman, calmly and tenderly birthing in the arms of her husband in the back of a bus on a pitstop, that was to change the lives of two watching women...
