About the Item
Passionate, sensitive and an eye for detail, light and color, this is the working method of Dutch photographer Ursula van de Bunte (1969). She is a perfectionist, enthusiastic and diligent, she will not be satisfied until the well-known WOW-factor has been reached.
With her artworks she tries to bring out her subjects in the purest way. Her work is unconventional and the way of using light therefore also tends to her great sources of inspiration such as the paintings of Jacques-Louis David, Rembrandt and Caravaggio.
Ursula wants to get to the heart of the matter, hold up a mirror, whether it concerns a staged collection of objects or a person with all his emotions. Her work is ambitious, creative, challenging, involved, authentic and unconventional.
With ''Lukah 2'' Van de Bunte captures a moment suspended in time. A young boy, dressed in a vivid crimson uniform, holds a leopard gecko in quiet contemplation. The composition is deliberate—evocative of classical portraiture—yet undeniably contemporary in its emotional intimacy.
Ursula van de Bunte constructs her portraits with the precision of an old master, yet she tells stories that resonate with modern mythology.
