About the Item

El Orgullo - the pride - Holguín, Cuba during Las Romerias de Mayo festival. Women full of pride dancing during Las Romerias de Mayo festival A troupe of female dancers full of all the pride of womanhood. This black-and-white photograph captures an intense moment of dance. Each dancer, adorned with elegant attire and expressive faces, embodies grace and concentration. The composition draws attention to the dancers' fluidity, with sharp contrasts highlighting their delicate postures. The foreground dancer, with her hand elegantly raised, leads the viewer's eye through the intricately layered scene, echoing a sense of rhythm and unity. The blurred background suggests dynamic motion, enhancing the feeling of a fleeting, yet powerful, artistic expression. The choice of monochrome adds a timeless quality, emphasizing form and emotion over distraction by color, making this a striking study of classical dance. James Sparshatt's photographs of music and dance capture the emotion and intensity of people lost in the rhythm of the moment. The work is available as silver gelatin and palladium platinum prints.
