ABOUT THIS PIECE : Made in collaboration with Mike Fleming This flashing neon sign was originally installed on Peaks Island in Maine. Its statement transforms as the word ‘on’ blinks rhythmically on and off. For the moment that single word is unilluminated, a new phrase with a different meaning emerges: “You are an island,” suggesting that we as individuals are each like islands, isolated from other human beings in both our bodies and our minds.
ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Alicia Eggert is an American artist based in Texas whose work focuses on the relationship between language, image and time. The motivation behind most of her work is a sincere desire to understand the linear, finite and fleeting nature of human life within a cyclical and seemingly infinite universe. Her artwork often takes the form of flashing neon signs that inspire a sense of wonder. The signs are installed and photographed in different locations around the world, allowing each site to uniquely influence the work’s meaning. Alicia’s artworks have been exhibited internationally, at venues such as the CAFA Art Museum in Beijing, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, the Amsterdam Light Festival in Amsterdam, and Galeria Fernando Santos in Porto, Portugal.
PACKAGING: 30x40" and 40x60" prints are shipped in a special fortified tube to guard against bending or damage. Framed 30x40" prints are shipped via FedEx in a bespoke cardboard box with a fitted interior armature for the frame. We do not frame the extra large, 40x60" print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage.
