This Game We Play #63 is a 30" x 40" C-Type Matte print from a Limited Edition of 5 by Franck Bohbot.
A painted mural on a brick wall backdrop creates a lighthearted and amusing scene, where the focal subject almost melts away.
The vast mural, covering an apartment block's width, depicts the icons and traditions for which New York is famous: the statue of Liberty, with her crown and outstretched arm, is visible in the top left, while a boat below her may indicate Ellis Island.
In the absolute center of the composition, Bohbot situates the turquoise-blue basketball hoop, its marine hue blending harmoniously with the green and blue shades of the mural backdrop. To the very right of the composition, Bohbot is sure to include a sliver of brickwork from a neighboring apartment block; the gentle hint that what we see is not quite all reality.
In this body of work by Franck Bohbot, This Game We Play, the photographer takes the basketball court as his subject matter. Always taking a direct, front-on perspective, creating a 180 degree dynamic between himself and the net, Bohbot situates each basketball court gently in the landscape in which it finds itself, but always manages to allow the court itself to speak.
