About the Item

Realistic artist Mitch Gibbs was raised in York, Pennsylvania. He studied art and was drawn to painting in a photo-realistic style. His art passion was coupled with his love for the Caribbean - specifically the Virgin Islands. For over 30 years he has spent large parts of each year as artist in residence at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in St. Thomas. There, he paints the local landscape and culture and displays at his gallery. This work is a stunningly beautiful high-quality color photograph of his painting titled “Cinnamon Bay”. Gibbs’ original works are so valuable and sought after that he sells photographic images out of his gallery location and website as well. They run about $125-150 each. The image is beautifully framed using the highest of archival materials. It seems that more money was spent on the framing than the photograph itself. The last image shows the artist’s bio that is attached to the back of the framed work. The visible image is about 7” x 10” and is professionally matted and framed to an overall size just under 16” x 20”. It is in very good condition with no significant issues to report, other than very minor knocks to the frame in a couple of spots. The restful beauty of the image and the overall framed work would complement any space, be it traditional or modern.

Rare Southern Painting of the French Broad River, North Carolina ca 1890
Located in Baltimore, MD
This is an unsigned, but rare, late 19th century oil on canvas of a view of the French Broad River in North Carolina. It is amongst the world’s oldest rivers. The scene depicted is mountainous and the water is swiftly moving. This would put the location at the northern end of its course, north of Asheville and near the North Carolina and Tennessee border. Much like the Hudson River School in...
