About the Item
'Waves' is an Archival Inkjet Print by contemporary photographer Morgan Silk.
Waves by Morgan Silk is available in this size of 16" x 20" in a limited edition of 25.
Another dramatic perspective from contemporary photographer Morgan Silk. In this plongée photograph, typically named to describe how the photographer positions himself directly above his subject matter, Silk captures the waves gently crushing the shoreline.
By capturing this photograph in plongée, directly from overhead, Silk manages to achieve a flattening effect on the waves coming into shore, giving the impression that they are small and gentle, whereas the reality might indeed be vastly different. This is all by design, and demonstrates the versatile and mind-bending effects of photography.
All prints sold unframed.
Lead times expected between 5-10 days.

Morgan Silk
Morgan Silk is a contemporary British photographer, born in the English market town of Burton-on-Trent. Silk's style of photography is minimalist and uncluttered, preferring sun-bleached, unsaturated aesthetic which emphasises the quality of visual detail available to the viewer. In his portraits of people, Silk employs a similar approach, highlighting the details of humanity of these subjects. Silk has been involved in creating photographic images since the mid-1980s after graduating from Blackpool and the Fylde College. He began his career as a creative re-toucher working alongside photographers for advertising clients, and then began to experiment with his own photography, predominantly colour landscapes, his skills as a re-toucher continuing to be employed to give an unusual and personal touch to the finished work. Now a highly successful photographer in his own right his major commercial clients include Land Rover, BMW, Umbro and Nike. Commissions in 2009 included a project run by FHM magazine as part of a new drive to help recruit RAF Regiment Officers, and a campaign for Network Rail. His highly acclaimed project Zoo won him an Association of Photographers Gold Award, and Morgan also received an Honourable Mention at the International Photo Awards (2009). His portrait of Jake Tassell from the series ‘After The Riots’ was selected as one of the six chosen limited edition covers of 2009’s Creative Review Photography Annual.

Originally trained as a painter, and then working as a collage artist, Marc Yankus began incorporating his own photographs into his artwork around 1999. However, when he did so, it marked a turning point in his career. In many of Yankus’ photographs, textures scanned from old tintypes, books, and other objects are digitally layered on top of the artist’s original images. The superimposition of the old and the new serves as an apt metaphor of Yankus’ wider conceptual interests. Throughout his work, the artist oscillates not only between the old and the new, the past and the present, but also between figuration and landscape. Establishing a rhythm and play between timeless portraits and beautifully still and quiet landscapes and cityscapes, Yankus’ achievement is a wonderful consistency of mood. Hushed, introspective, and at turns even melancholic, this body of work is ultimately a reflection of the artist’s personal past and his passage into the present time.
Marc Yankus’ fine art and publishing experience span a period of more than thirty years. His work has been included in exhibitions at The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York; Exit Art, New York City; The Library of Congress, Washington, DC; and ClampArt, New York City. Yankus’ artwork has graced the covers of books by Salman Rushdie, Philip Roth...
