The vast American landscape stretches out in front of the viewer in this photograph by Samuel Hicks. Taking a lowdown perspective in this photograph, in a similar perspective to Bruno's Motel, Hicks places the focus on the road ahead.
The contrast of man and nature is highlighted above all. The strict and regimented symmetry of the highway contrasts with the uncontrollable and fluid evolution of mother nature in the sky and clouds above.

Samuel Hicks
English photographer Samuel Hicks combines a commercial and editorial approach to constructing images. During Hicks’ foundation course at university, he was intrigued by the photography department and subsequently decided to apply for a BA in Photography. During his BA degree, Hicks got work experience with commercial photographers in London, and his eyes were opened to the world of commercial photography. He was so enthralled that he left the BA one year early, and found work as a photography assistant, working mainly with “people and cars”. These years were spent, among other things, travelling around the world and shooting personal work, which led to him joining an agency. Now an independent creative photographer, Hicks shoots commercial and personal projects. Hicks’ creative process always starts with inspiration, from musicians and designers, to other photographers. His aim is always to find great beauty where other people don’t.
