A small brown hut stands in a desert landscape of bleached sands and blue skies.
Soft whispy clouds rush past in the vast blue expanse of sky above, lending an atmosphere to this resolute image. One can almost hear the desert sands scattering in the breeze, as the clouds alternate their act of hiding and revealing the bright Springtime sun.
The hut represents the only man-made structure in this otherwise natural, bleak landscape. The man-made intervention is not an unwelcome one; it captures the viewer's eye and locates it directly in the center of the composition, encouraging the viewer to let their eye travel gracefully around the circles in the sands, the huts in the distance, the racing clouds in the sky.
Upon closer inspection of the hut, it is lavatories.
Since being out on his own as a photographer, Hicks has been fortunate enough to travel to places such as Argentina, the States, Czech republic, and many Caribbean Islands, working for clients such as O2, Land Rover, Lucozade, P&O, Smirnoff Ice, The Times, The Independent, Art World, ING, Lynx and Metropolitan Police. In the last few years his personal projects have incorporated working on location in Sweden, Norway, and Ireland where he shot the New York State Circus.

Samuel Hicks
English photographer Samuel Hicks combines a commercial and editorial approach to constructing images. During Hicks’ foundation course at university, he was intrigued by the photography department and subsequently decided to apply for a BA in Photography. During his BA degree, Hicks got work experience with commercial photographers in London, and his eyes were opened to the world of commercial photography. He was so enthralled that he left the BA one year early, and found work as a photography assistant, working mainly with “people and cars”. These years were spent, among other things, travelling around the world and shooting personal work, which led to him joining an agency. Now an independent creative photographer, Hicks shoots commercial and personal projects. Hicks’ creative process always starts with inspiration, from musicians and designers, to other photographers. His aim is always to find great beauty where other people don’t.
