Nowhere - Words from Nowhere by Ride, Red Castle, Donegal, Ireland, 2016 is a 16" x 20" C-Type Print from a Limited Edition of 25 by Samuel Hicks.
In this series by London-based photographer Samuel Hicks, the words and lyrics of popular and sometimes evocative songs are set into the urban landscape in neon light.
On an abandoned beach in Donegal in Ireland, the lyrics to the song 'Nowhere' by Ride are cast in pink neon tubes.
The soft light of the early evening casts a gentle lavender glow over the wet, sandy beach. The clouds are diffused over the sky and reach down to the horizon.
Donegal is a town in the northwest of the Republic of Ireland that is positioned on the mouth of the River Eske.

Samuel Hicks
English photographer Samuel Hicks combines a commercial and editorial approach to constructing images. During Hicks’ foundation course at university, he was intrigued by the photography department and subsequently decided to apply for a BA in Photography. During his BA degree, Hicks got work experience with commercial photographers in London, and his eyes were opened to the world of commercial photography. He was so enthralled that he left the BA one year early, and found work as a photography assistant, working mainly with “people and cars”. These years were spent, among other things, travelling around the world and shooting personal work, which led to him joining an agency. Now an independent creative photographer, Hicks shoots commercial and personal projects. Hicks’ creative process always starts with inspiration, from musicians and designers, to other photographers. His aim is always to find great beauty where other people don’t.
