About the Item
"TV 1" is an atmospheric C-Type print by Samuel Hicks.

The pale blue glow of the analogue television stands out on this grassy hill, while the rest of the city of London sits in the distance. The sky is suffused with soft clouds and the color of lavender and spring.
As the first image in his trio, this photograph depicts the vastness of London stretching out into the horizon, glowing under the light of the early evening sunset in summer.
The contrast of analogue technology in what we know to be a purely digital age is striking, and Hicks renders this contrast with simplicity and gentleness.

Samuel Hicks
English photographer Samuel Hicks combines a commercial and editorial approach to constructing images. During Hicks’ foundation course at university, he was intrigued by the photography department and subsequently decided to apply for a BA in Photography. During his BA degree, Hicks got work experience with commercial photographers in London, and his eyes were opened to the world of commercial photography. He was so enthralled that he left the BA one year early, and found work as a photography assistant, working mainly with “people and cars”. These years were spent, among other things, travelling around the world and shooting personal work, which led to him joining an agency. Now an independent creative photographer, Hicks shoots commercial and personal projects. Hicks’ creative process always starts with inspiration, from musicians and designers, to other photographers. His aim is always to find great beauty where other people don’t.
