Watch Over You - Words from Into My Arms by Nick Cave, Seven Sisters Country Park, East Sussex is a 16" x 20" C-Type Print from a Limited Edition of 25 by Samuel Hicks.
A stunning sunset casts a gentle glow over the Sussex countryside as the undulating curves of a river cast their way through the verdant natural landscape.
The clouds in the sky are moving swiftly and slowly in equal measure, and the setting sunlight casts them in a lavender hue that adds a touch of gentleness to this contemporary landscape photograph.
In this series by London-based photographer Samuel Hicks, the words and lyrics of popular and sometimes evocative songs are set into the urban landscape in neon light.
In this composition, Watch Over You, Hicks matches the location to the content of the lyrics. From a high viewpoint up on a hill he looks down onto the floodplain below where his neon artwork is placed. The orange gleam of the neon letters are reflected by the placid waters of the curving river, enhancing the illumination in this contemporary landscape photograph.

Samuel Hicks
English photographer Samuel Hicks combines a commercial and editorial approach to constructing images. During Hicks’ foundation course at university, he was intrigued by the photography department and subsequently decided to apply for a BA in Photography. During his BA degree, Hicks got work experience with commercial photographers in London, and his eyes were opened to the world of commercial photography. He was so enthralled that he left the BA one year early, and found work as a photography assistant, working mainly with “people and cars”. These years were spent, among other things, travelling around the world and shooting personal work, which led to him joining an agency. Now an independent creative photographer, Hicks shoots commercial and personal projects. Hicks’ creative process always starts with inspiration, from musicians and designers, to other photographers. His aim is always to find great beauty where other people don’t.
