Stefanie Schneider's use of Polaroid film in her art is well known and highly regarded by many. When Polaroid announced in 2008 that they would be discontinuing the production of their iconic instant film, many artists and photographers were devastated. Dr. Florian Kaps, an Austrian entrepreneur and Polaroid enthusiast, decided to take action to save the last remaining Polaroid production plant in the world.
Kaps was inspired by Schneider's work and her passion for Polaroid film, and he saw the potential for a new market in instant photography. He launched The Impossible Project, which aimed to continue producing Polaroid film after the original manufacturer had ceased production. The Impossible Project eventually acquired the last Polaroid production plant in the world, and today it continues to produce instant film under the Polaroid Originals brand.
Stefanie Schneider's influence on the preservation of Polaroid film cannot be understated. Her dedication to the medium helped to inspire Kaps to take action and ultimately led to the continuation of instant film production. While there have been other instances of artists influencing the preservation of a medium, Schneider's impact on the Polaroid film industry is unique and significant.
