Framed black and white female nude with chair, from John Casado, whose poignant and sculptural studies declare a deeper ambition than mere sensuality. "This is not about the obvious. It is not about sex", says the artist. "It is about unleashing visions of the subconscious mind". Casado's male and female nudes writhe with serpentine energy and yet are curiously still, almost monumental, as if they are carved from living stone.
The unique etched effect is the result of years of experimentation, using a discontinued line of high cadmium content paper, in combination with ageing litho developer. Stirred by the paintings of Frances Bacon and the beautiful abstractions of African Art - "Their transformations of figure into symbol" - Casado captures athletic figures who are always faceless, and often masked, in a deliberate step away form erotic intimacy.
John Casado’s work has exhibited alongside Man Ray and Jean-Michel Basquiat in San Francisco. His work is included in the permanent collections of New Orlean’s Museum of Art, and the Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Photography, and is collected worldwide.
The unique photograph is in pristine condition. it is professionally framed with all archival materials. The moulding is solid ebonized walnut wood — a stunning and sophisticated presentation. Frame outer dimensions are 20 3/4 x 17 inches.

John Casado
John Casado is an American graphic designer, artist and photographer. He made his name in advertising and design where he created the branding for New Line Cinema, Esprit and Macintosh computer. Casado's work in the music industry won him cult status and received a Grammy Award for design. In 1984, he mounted a show of abstract paintings (alongside the work of Man Ray) at the Stephen Wirtz Gallery, San Francisco. One indication that we have truly entered a new era of creativity are the photographs of John Casado. His nudes reveal new attitudes and new visions that stamp him firmly as an artist who differs from his predecessors of the past 170 years. In the past two centuries, from the earliest days of photography, the nude has evolved slowly, but there is now a decided change.
