Mark Sink, a Denver-based photographer, had a formative experience in the 1980s working alongside several influential artists in New York City. During this period, he collaborated with Robert Mapplethorpe, known for his bold and intimate portraits, whose work deeply influenced Sink's approach to human subjects. He also worked with Keith Haring, whose vibrant, socially engaged art inspired Sink’s exploration of color and dynamic space in photography. Additionally, Sink was exposed to the creative atmosphere of Andy Warhol's Factory, where he absorbed Warhol’s unique approach to celebrity culture and mass production, shaping his understanding of the art-world persona. Sink also collaborated with Cindy Sherman, whose conceptual photography focused on identity and self-representation, influencing Sink's own exploration of these themes in portraiture. Sink’s collaborations with these and other prominent artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Laurie Anderson provided him with a rich artistic foundation.
