About the Item
"Paul Cava: Photographs, Collages, Montages" is a softcover, limited edition (of 250) book publication featuring the photography and photo-based fine art of artist Paul Cava. Signed by the artist. 76 pages with 57 reproductions. Includes nudes, still lifes, abstractions. The artist's second book covers mostly previously unpublished photographs, collages and montages made between the years 1979 - 2019. “In its reverence for ‘the happy accident’, its quest to transcend the boundaries of time and place, to distill the emotional resonance of an image or a moment, Cava's art, like Whitman’s words, asks us to open ourselves to the grandeur and the depth of feeling within each of us…Cava achieves not only a seamless technical fluidity, but an ability to manipulate imagery and association with a delicacy of touch, a generosity of spirit and a tenderness for the absurdity of our predicament that come only with artistic and personal maturity... Indeed, it is nearly impossible to stand before the naked images in this body of work and not feel naked as well, for in their purity and integrity, in their own vulnerability and humanity, they reach beyond our carefully tended boundaries and touch the part of us that despite its own better judgment, loves and lives for love...” Arden Kass from "Walt Whitman and Paul Cava, Children of Adam from Leaves of Grass".
Brooklyn-born artist Paul Cava began his career as an artist in the late 1960's. Cava made his first explorations as a poet, multi-media artist, filmmaker, photographer and painter. He finally settled in the last three decades on a hybrid form of expression that synthesized his previous efforts and anticipated the current digital use of photography by combining photographs, words, collage, drawing, painting, and printmaking into his own visual language, the core of which is a personal visual poetry.
Cava has exhibited paintings, drawings and photo-based works from 1976 to the present in galleries and museums in the United States and Europe. His work has been collected by a broad range of private and public institutions, including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Princeton University Museum of Art, and The Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. His work has been featured in many publications including "Eyemazing Magazine" and "Das Magazin." Cava was a recipient of Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grants in 1981 and 1999. In 2005, the German publisher Edition Galerie Vevais released "Walt Whitman and Paul Cava / Children of Adam," a deluxe volume of Cava’s photo-based art and Walt Whitman’s poetry. The artist’s second book, "Paul Cava: Photographs Collages Montages" covers mostly previously unpublished photographs, collages and montages made between the years 1979-2019.

"Most of my works are supported by memories of the past and suggested realities. Issues of social politics, ancestral references, and astral projections are presented with fragmented elements of 'real life' collaged and collapsed, as dreams are prone to do. If connections are made, all the better. I feel that life should remind us of our dreams." - Richard J. Watson

He has been exhibiting his work for decades, and has an extensive bibliography.
