Travezan.
In what might be the most dynamically composed portrait of this body of work by Tortora
Travezan, the slender porcelain body of the female nude is situated against a vast and vibrantly pigmented floral backdrop that envelopes her lithe body.
Already the porcelain fragility of her body is positioned against a bold and enlivening backdrop which creates a stimulating contrast. Her slender left hip rests gently on the crocus-yellow petals of a giant flower. An abundance of vibrant orange freesias and soft pink roses cluster behind the model's head and appear to launch out of her head.
Like previous prints in this body of work, Flora, Tortora
Travezan are careful to avoid the obvious eroticisation of the female nude. They achieve this by subtly placing focus on specific aspects of the female nude, rather than by depicting it in its entirety.
This Cubist-esque approach permits the body to be appreciated in proportion to its impact, enabling both the artists and the ultimate viewer to view the female body with sensitivity and appreciate the subtle sensuality that the female nude is due.
Photography duo Tortora
Travezan create vibrant portraits that combine nude and still life. David Tortora and Jaime Travezan met in London in 2006, where both were pursuing creative careers. Following their first collaboration on fashion editorials and portraiture, they soon presented their first fine art photography project, "Galatea".
In "Galatea" the duo pays hommage to influential American Pop artist, Tom Wesselmann. Their bold approach took Wesselmann's 1970s series "Bedroom Paintings" and reimagined them with a contemporary vibe.
They continue this adventurous and uncompromising marriage of colour and close-up nudes in "Flora", their second fine-art series that celebrates nature and the sensuous freshness of spring.
Prints are produced to order and shipped unframed.
