In this series, Brad Wilson expands and deepens his investigation of the genre and its place in art history, building upon his previous animal portraiture, Affinity. The artist meticulously worked over each sheet of expired Polaroid film from the start of his career, allowing an abstract landscape of tone and texture to take shape. During the process, he inserted his fingerprints, a distinctive personal mark that alludes to the omnipresent human hand prints that go along with animal representations in the earliest Paleolithic paintings discovered on cave walls. He then blended his modern in-studio portraits of wild animals with these altered artifacts. Then, these new pictures merge the past and present; they represent the unchangeable bond between humans and wildlife resulting from our species' co-evolution. Brad Wilson transcends the boundaries of wildlife or nature photography : his powerful photographs represent a world of instinct and intuition – a fully natural world. The artist pulls us into this world with large, exquisitely detailed photographs, offering up a compelling feeling of intimacy and proximity seldom experienced. He intentionally removes all barriers and distractions so the animals depicted move vividly forward out of a deep black background to thoroughly reveal themselves and to challenge our notion of what it means to be human.

Black and White (School children in Gambia, West Africa)
By Benno Thoma
Located in New Orleans, LA
This black and white image is of an excited group of school children in Gambia, West Africa This impression is #1 of an edition of 10. It is printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth paper that meets the highest industry standards regarding density, color gamut, color graduation and image sharpness. This white 100% rag paper guarantees archival standards. Benno Thoma was born in the university city of Maastricht on the southern tip of the Netherlands in November, 1956. He strives to stimulate our senses in his photographs and to move his audience to touch, feel and experience his vision. Thoma's photographs show us the beauty in each aspect of the composition. There is a tactile feel to his material, a positive energy that comes from the light that gives nuance to the subtle colors created. Arranged together with the beauty and dignity of the human body his technique invites us to become one with the scene. He travels around the world to create his images and strives to bathe his subjects in the natural light of that locale. Above all he captures the sense of place, its uniqueness -- cultural, natural or architectural. His newest photographs manipulate the element of water and light to express his vision of the male body – in both its innocence and vulnerability. Thoma uses movement and composition to capture the beauty of the body. The German publishing house of Bruno Gmunder has published five monographs of the work of Thoma. His photographs chronicle the luxurious properties of the Kempinski Hotel Group, the beautiful young actors of Bel Ami...
