About the Item

Twiggy with her Manager, 1966 by Burt Glinn is a 10" x 8" gelatin silver press print from the 1960s. Magnum stamps from the period on verso (back of photo). Top Model Twiggy and her manager boyfriend Justin de Villeneuve are photographed in London, England in a documentary style portrait. Glinn captures the androgynous charm of the British gamine dressed in a pin-striped suit. With cropped hair, very little makeup, and the model looking away from the camera, Twiggy defies classic femininity for a more liberated zeitgeist. Provenance: Glinn Archive *** Artist’s Bio: Born 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, photographer Burt Glinn worked for LIFE magazine before joining Magnum photo agency. He photographed personalities throughout the 1950s and 60s, continuing to work commercially and editorially for more than five decades in the US and abroad on assignment, until his death in 2008. The artist photographed revolutionary leader Fidel Castro entrance into Havana, Cuba, celebrity and art luminaries such as Andy Warhol and Helen Frankenthaler. Subject matter included the social scene of the rich, the dirtiness of politics, and the humorous. Glinn received numerous awards for his editorial and commercial photography.
