About the Item
This Oleg Dou work is a 63 x 47 inch digitally rendered C-print which has been face mounted on acrylic. It was printed in 2015, and is one of eight editions. This soft and somber image features a highly idealized human profile. The forlorn gaze of the figure seems to comment on the disconcerting nature of how perfection is perceived.
Internationally acclaimed artist Oleg Dou was born in 1983 in Moscow, Russia. Since his graduation from University in 2006, Dou has worked as an artist in cooperation with a multitude of artistic institutions and curators world-wide. The recipient of a myriad of awards across the globe, Dou’s work has been exhibited in many eminent international art fixtures, some of which include the Pingyao International Photography Festival, China; the Seoul Photo Festival, Korea; the FotoFestival Naarden, Netherlands; and the International Photography Awards. Additionally, in 2007 and 2008 Dou's works were featured at the Kandinsky Prize — the main exhibition award for contemporary art in Moscow. Oleg's work has also been exhibited in France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Turkey, and the United States. Dou was rated number 3 under 30 world-wide, according to Art Market Insight’s “30 Under 30, Up and Coming Photographers.”
Oleg’s work is continuously inspired by his interest in human individuality and self-expression and the attempts to solve the problem of identity in our age. Visually intrigued by the culture of fashion and surrealists, his 2006 "Naked Faces" project was devoted to the relationship between a human’s inner self and his behavior in society and proposes that the expectations of society set the standards of behavior and thought, in terms of what is appropriate and acceptable. These themes continue to be prevalent in Dou's works today.
