Stefanie Schneider distills emotion into image, memory into light.
Rather than documenting the world, she reveals how it feels—sun-bleached, fragmented, tender. Working with expired Polaroid film, her photographs are alchemical: equal parts chemistry and chance, where flaws become poetry and imperfection becomes truth. Her desert dreamscapes—populated by lovers, loners, and ghosts—exist in a cinematic in-between, suspended between past and present, longing and loss.
Through her faded palettes and melting silhouettes, Schneider doesn’t just preserve a dying medium—she transforms it. Her work echoes Hopper’s stillness, Wenders’ roads, and the melancholy of forgotten songs, yet it’s entirely her own. In capturing what fades, she leaves us with something enduring: not a photograph of a moment, but the memory of one.

WHAT IS A CYANOTYPE?

Cyanotype is a historic photographic processes, invented in 1842 and used by Anna Atkins–the first female photographer. The process involves coating watercolor paper with light-sensitive chemistry made of iron salts. Photographic negatives are laid on top, exposed in the sunlight, and then washed in water to develop into the deep Prussian-blue unique to cyanotypes. Brings a moment of beauty and conversation to any space.
