This piece is an original photograph from the original negative, shot by Bill Carroll in 1945 and printed at a later date. It depicts a young Marilyn Monroe (then known as Norma Jeane) in front of Castle Rock in Santa Monica off of the Pacific Coast Highway. This image is from Norma Jeane's first paid photo shoot as a model. The one day shoot was arranged to make a joint advertisement for the Universal Camera Company's new single frame 35 mm Mercury II camera, and ANSCO Lab's color processing services.
This piece is hand signed by the photographer and numbered from the edition of V (5). This is a rare size format as the regular edition of 25 is 14 x 11 inches. The piece measures 27 x 21 inches and the framed dimensions are 34.75 x 28 inches.
