About the Item

Printed on archival fine art paper and signed, dated and numbered by the artist. Edition #2 of 5. About the artist: "I always felt that plants have a secret life. First, you don't recognize them, they seem to be invisible. Once they start to grow you might ask yourself who they are and what they might look like. With the start of blooming you're mesmerized by their beauty and when you return the very next day to get a second look, they are gone." - Carsten Witte. German photographer Carsten Witte began shooting florals more than 20 years ago. With his ongoing project titled, "The Secret Life of Plants," which he began in 2008, Witte uses a simple photographic process and applies a bronze/gray background in a self mixed chemical process that sets it apart from other photography of plants. "I started with some exotic flowers, but I really love dahlias, they are so mighty in their forms and colors," says Witte. "And today I am working on the fading ones." Carsten Witte's main concern with photography is to show beauty but also with the hint of how fast it fades.

Dahlia Gallery Pablo

Located in Napa, CA
X-ray digital C-type mounted onto Dibond, with Plexi face We live in a world obsessed with image, what we look like, what our clothes, houses, and cars look like etc. Nick Veasey counters this obsession with superficiality by using x-rays to strip back layers and show what is under the surface. Often, integral beauty adds intrigue to the familiar and challenges our automatic reaction to physical appearance by highlighting the beauty inside. Society is being increasingly inhibited by security and surveillance. Take a flight or go into a high-profile courtroom and your belongings will be x-rayed. The post arriving in corporations and government departments is often x-rayed. Security cameras...
