Hugh Turvey is a British artist and photographer who uses x-ray technology to create what he calls Xograms, a fusion of visible light and x-ray imagery.
Hugh trained as a designer / art director but on discovering photography he retrained under iconic photographer Gered Mankowitz. During 1996/1997 he started experimenting with x-ray/shadow photography after being asked to create an alternative ‘revealing’ image for an album cover. With the encouragement of the Science Photo Library he went on to produce an extensive series of coloured x-rays of everyday objects, which were first published on the 4 April 1999 in The Observer Magazine, LIFE, UK. In the same year Credit Suisse discovered Hughs x-ray vision and commissioned 6 ground breaking ‘motion x-ray’ European TV commercials.

Hugh Turvey
Hugh Turvey is a British artist and photographer who uses X-ray technology to create what he calls Xograms, a fusion of visible light and X-ray imagery. Turvey trained as a designer/art director but on discovering photography, he trained under iconic photographer Gered Mankowitz. During 1996–97, he started experimenting with X-ray/shadow photography after being asked to create an alternative revealing image for an album cover. With the encouragement of the Science Photo Library, he went on to produce an extensive series of colored X-rays of everyday objects, which were first published on 4th April 1999 in The Observer and LIFE magazines. In the same year, Credit Suisse discovered Turvey’s X-ray vision and commissioned six groundbreaking motion X-ray European TV commercials.

The photography of Arie van ’t Riet is a merger of his scientific background, being an engineer and physicist, and his passion and love for flora and fauna. His focus is on the essence of nature. This process takes a sense of beauty, but also technical knowledge and insight. The animals (found dead) he uses, are placed in an optimal position together with plants and other crops. This setup, called a Biorama, is placed for a X-ray and by radiation fixated on film. For this work van ’t Riet received a special permit.
