About the Item

Brighton 27 - Platinum Palladium print over silver on vellum paper Edition 1 of 8 , plus 2 AP ( Small size ) An old Harley Davidson motorcycle in front of a gas station garage in Brighton, UK, in 1984. Signed + numbered with certificate of authenticity ( signature and title are hidden here on the photos to avoid counterfeiting ) Silver gives this photograph the distinctive feature of changing tone according to the ambient light. This photography is created entirely by hand utilizing only the most valuable and rare metallic elements : gold, platinum and palladium. By incorporating them directly into the photographic medium, the artist elevates the images to a rarified realm, making each one a truly unique and invaluable artistic object. The resulting images have a luxurious like a piece of jewellery. Each print is a one-of-a-kind work of art. This means that each print is unique even if in an edition of 8 This print is produced using a 19th. century process called Platinum Palladium Printing. This image was captured on film in 1984. The negative was scanned to create a digital negative specific to this technique. The photograph is produced by coating a light sensitive Platinum and Palladium solution on to translucent vellum paper on which the photograph appears which is then bonded with silver on the back of the print. A labor intensive and expensive process which results in a beautiful finish and longevity into the hundreds of years. Print created later. Provenance : Ian Sanderson’s Estate Platinum Palladium Silver print available sizes ( each in edition of 8 plus 2 AP ) : Image size : 13,5 x 18,5 cm / 5,11 x 7,08" Watercolour sheet : 18,5 x 22 cm / 7,08 x 8,66" Ian Sanderson (born 1951 Scotland, died 2020 Spain) was a Scottish photographer. Ian produced images over a 35 year career. For most he worked as both a Commercial and Fine Art photographer; during his last years concentrated on his personal archive. Ian and his widow Nathalie have worked for many years with alternative printing techniques in their workshop, ISP, creating Platinum Palladium, Silver Gelatin, Lith or Gum Bichromate. This culminated in a large retrospective exhibition in Barcelona which was sponsored by the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation. Platinum Palladium printing is a traditional photographic technique which precedes silver gelatin technique. Many photographers have worked with it in the past as Irvin Penn, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sebastiao Salgado o Ormond Gigli with its Platinum with gold leaf print 'Girls in the Windows'. ISP Workshop continues to captivate art lovers by creating unique and fascinating prints.
