About the Item

A summery photograph of a beach-ready Ken, this piece is sure to be a bright introduction to your home. Whether in a colorful kitchen, or a bright, sunny sitting room, this work is sure to start conversations! When photographer Larry Torno was granted access to a collection of vintage Barbies, his goal was to show the timely relevance of their interior lives. He colors them as alive as any human subject! About Larry Torno: Since 1977, Larry Torno has worked in the graphic design business as a designer, art director, and creative director for companies large and small, from Fortune 500 to Not-for-Profit. In 2004, a trip to Carmel, California changed everything. He was surrounded by the work of Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Edward Weston, and a friend's extensive collection of his personal work of the Great American West. It all awakened in him a personal dream – to elevate his love of photography to the level of creative expression that Torno finds in his design. He bought a camera and started shooting. Today, Torno’s photographic work is an exploration of ideas and observations. He works for the moment when what is in front of him transforms into something not seen before.

Stifling
By Rachel Lauren
Located in Kansas City, MO
Artist: Rachel Lauren Title: Stifling Date: 2019 Medium: Inkjet print Dimensions: 14 x 11 in. Photographer Rachel Lauren invites viewers to become more aware of the way natural beauty has been contorted, packed and sold as a cold, manufactured, cloned and empty product. Are women inherently beautiful, or do they require modifications? Are you seeing your uniquely created reflection through a distorted lens? By imposing a juxtaposition between real and fake through abstract portraiture, Lauren calls attention to these complex ideals in "Distorted Beauty". Lauren is currently an MFA candidate at UMKC and based in Colorado. Since the age of two, she has fostered a love for photography and traveling which have both shaped her understanding of the issues she addresses in her work. Contemporary photography, portrait photography, experimental portraiture, conceptual photography, Steve McCurry, Lisa Kristine...
