About the Item
'Lilies' is an Archival Inkjet Print by contemporary photographer Morgan Silk.
Lilies by Morgan Silk is available in this size of 17" x 24" in a limited edition of 25.
From the series 'Eclectica' by Morgan Silk, a collection of Morgan Silk photography.
A dense close-up of water lilies characterises this still-life photograph by Morgan Silk. Taking a cropped-in approach to this photograph, Silk emphasises the repetitive shapes one finds in the natural environments we might often overlook.
The complexity of forms available to the viewer is tempered when one hones in on a specific area of the image itself; yes, there is repetition, but there is also fluidity of form, and consistency, which we, as humans, have a tendency to appreciate and gravitate towards.
Prints are sold unframed.

Morgan Silk
Morgan Silk is a contemporary British photographer, born in the English market town of Burton-on-Trent. Silk's style of photography is minimalist and uncluttered, preferring sun-bleached, unsaturated aesthetic which emphasises the quality of visual detail available to the viewer. In his portraits of people, Silk employs a similar approach, highlighting the details of humanity of these subjects. Silk has been involved in creating photographic images since the mid-1980s after graduating from Blackpool and the Fylde College. He began his career as a creative re-toucher working alongside photographers for advertising clients, and then began to experiment with his own photography, predominantly colour landscapes, his skills as a re-toucher continuing to be employed to give an unusual and personal touch to the finished work. Now a highly successful photographer in his own right his major commercial clients include Land Rover, BMW, Umbro and Nike. Commissions in 2009 included a project run by FHM magazine as part of a new drive to help recruit RAF Regiment Officers, and a campaign for Network Rail. His highly acclaimed project Zoo won him an Association of Photographers Gold Award, and Morgan also received an Honourable Mention at the International Photo Awards (2009). His portrait of Jake Tassell from the series ‘After The Riots’ was selected as one of the six chosen limited edition covers of 2009’s Creative Review Photography Annual.

This photograph is available unframed, $1800. The image measures 20 x 30 inches, and the paper measures 24 x 26 inches.
Artist statement:
Nature provides the perfect model of beauty, according to Plato and Socrates. In the classical period, something was considered beautiful because it existed in nature; art was secondary. In the 18th Century, the German philosopher Johann Joachim Winckelmann argued against the idea that art imitates life, believing that qualities superior to nature are found in art, specifically, ideal beauty, and “brain-born images”. Neoclassical thought represented that art need not serve any end other than its own existence. For me, beauty is an ideal, nature is real, and art comes from the brain.
I take pictures in nature, finding shifting, disparate, and beautiful landscapes. I develop my pictures of trees...
