Magnelli, Alberto (Italian 1888-1971) UNTITLED. Woodcut, not dated. Numbered 18 H.C., and hors de commerce prrof aside from an edition of unknown size. Signed in pencil,lower right. 10 1/2 x 8 1/8 inches (image), 13 5/8 x 10 1/2 inches (sheet). In excellent condition. A bold abstract shape in white is against a background of color shading from a deep red-brown at left to blue at right over the wood-grain of the block. In excellent condition.

Alberto Magnelli
Alberto Magnelli was a famous Italian artist born in Florence, Italy, in 1888. He can be considered as a precursor of the Abstract movement in Europe. Magnelli started with futurists, but since 1915, he started to create abstract compositions. He elaborated on a personal vision of painting, creating a current that he has defined as Imaginary Realism.
