About the Item
This two-color screenprint by Ann Aspinwall exemplifies the artist’s refined exploration of perception, rhythm, and chromatic restraint. Known for her meticulous approach to printmaking, Aspinwall uses subtle variation within a limited palette to create compositions that reward sustained looking rather than immediate impact.
In this work, finely layered horizontal lines generate a quiet optical vibration, producing a sense of depth and movement without overt gesture. The interplay between the two colors—closely related yet distinctly modulated—creates a shifting visual field in which tone and density appear to ebb and flow across the surface. This controlled repetition reflects Aspinwall’s interest in how minimal means can produce complex perceptual effects.
Aspinwall’s practice is rooted in process. The screenprint medium allows for precision while still embracing slight irregularities, giving the work a tactile presence that softens its geometric structure. The result is a composition that feels both rigorous and atmospheric, balancing order with nuance.
Elegant and contemplative, this print is well suited to collectors drawn to contemporary abstraction, color theory, and works that engage the viewer through subtlety rather than spectacle. It stands as a confident example of Aspinwall’s ability to transform restraint into visual richness—an artwork that unfolds slowly and continues to resonate over time.
