"He is the Child of a Mountain of a Man" Print 40×50 in Ed. 1/10 by Kate Garner
Located in Culver City, CA
"He is the Child of a mountain of a Man" Print 40×50 in Ed. 1/10 by Kate Garner Signed and numbered by the artist. Not framed. Ships in a tube. Kate Garner is an English photographer, fine artist, and singer. Garner has photographed a wide range of musicians and celebrities, including Dr. Dre, Leigh Bowery, JT LeRoy, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, David Bowie, Cameron Diaz, PJ Harvey, John Galliano, Björk, and Kate Moss. Her work has appeared in the American and British versions of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar as well as W magazine, Interview, GQ, Vanity Fair, Elle, and The Sunday Times. Kate Garner was expelled from high school at the age of 16 and became a runaway who joined The Children Of God. To escape the grasp of the cult she hitchhiked from London through Eastern Europe to India in 1970, where she lived for a year as a traveler before being located by her parents. She attended art school at Blackpool in the North of England and later moved to London, where she began to both photograph and model for up-and-coming magazines such as The Face and i-D. Kate Garner first came widely into the public eye as one-third of the 1980s avant-garde, new wave pop project Haysi Fantayzee, along with other members Jeremy Healy and Paul Caplin. Emanating from street art scenes such as the Blitz Kids that were cropping up in London in the early 1980s, Haysi’s music combined reggae, country, and electro with political and sociological lyrics couched as nursery rhymes. Catapulted to stardom by their visual sensibilities, Haysi Fantayzee combined their extreme clothes sense – described as combining white Rasta, tribal chieftain, and Dickensian styles – with a quirky musical sound comparable to other new wave musical pop acts of the era, such as Bow Wow Wow...

Three Sound Sculpture
Located in Lambertville, NJ
Jim’s of Lambertville is proud to offer this artwork by: Harry Bertoia (1915 – 1978) Artist, sound art sculptor, and furniture designer, Harry Bertoia, was born in Italy in 1915 before immigrating to America in 1930. In 1936, he attended the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts before moving to study at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield, Michigan, where he would later teach and establish a metalworking department. During this early artistic period, he experimented with jewelry forms, exploring creative concepts that would later emerge in his sculptures. In 1943, he relocated to Venice, California, along with esteemed artist-designer couple Charles and Ray Eames, to participate in war efforts until 1946. During his first year in California, he began attending a welding class at Santa Monica City College. In 1947, he moved to La Jolla to work in the publications department of Point Loma Naval Electronics Laboratory creating training manuals for equipment operators. During this time, he continued making jewelry and monoprints and began his first experiments with metal sculpture. In 1949, he moved to Barto, Pennsylvania to work alongside Hans and Florence Knoll at Knoll Associates, a design company and furniture manufacturer. From then on, he became a prolific architectural sculptor. While at Knoll Associates, he created the famous wire Bertoia Collection. Among the designs for this collection was his Diamond Chair, which quickly became an iconic and commercially successful model. His first sculpture exhibition was in 1951 at the Knoll Showroom in New York. Besides his work in jewelry making and furniture design, during the 1960s, Bertoia began to devote himself to the production of sound sculptures...

*Scientists at Mount Sinai are working to identify and block COVID-19 while many are still at risk from the disease. We (the artist and gallery) will be donating 30% of all income from this work to Mount Sinai to support their efforts saving lives… Picadas creates photographs and video installations of places, situations and architecture that not only reveal their inner essence but also hint at dark unknown recesses. By partially stripping away the surface features of an image, the artist unearths visions that give rise to both a secret countenance and a psychic inner landscape. The artist explains, “In my photographs I examine and reveal the ways in which one can freeze both space and time by re-contextualizing different parts of reality and recombining them in new ways. The result is that both objects, and even situations, can be transformed into a kind of sculpture, providing us access to new knowledge about the nature of our reality.” The current works on view include photographs from Costas Picadas...

Then Came a Stick and Beat the Dog, 1984
Located in Palo Alto, CA
Then Came a Stick and Beat the Dog, 1984 is a stellar example of his use of incredibly bright colors and a plethora of irregular shapes. The first thing you notice about this piece besides its colossal size is the color palette. The colors are highly saturated and vibrant; they carry a certain narrative, heavy quality that speaks to you. To name a few, Stella uses electrifying colors of magenta, pink, silver, brown, green, lavender, and aquamarine. These hues dazzle in plain sight but also accentuate the disorderly shapes of cones and cylinders. The outlines of these forms spill over the edge of the paper while the magical swirls of lines occupy your vision. The diversity in texture and layering of color on top of each other heightens the sense of mass and weight incorporated into this work. The rhythmic lines and experimental quality of irregular shapes compose a kind of poetic allure. Inspired by gouaches done by the Russian avant-garde artist, El Lissitsky, Stella takes on a fresh new rendition. El Lissitzky’s works that Stella had seen in Tel Aviv were based on a song called “Had Gadya.” Stella designated titles for each variant in the series that becomes very much a part of his style as an artist. This piece is an example that highlights Stella as an artist who fuses inspiration from his well-traveled life into an aesthetically and culturally pleasing work of art. In all of this work’s interwoven structures, layered colors, and historic background, lies the mastery of Frank Stella, as a distinct artist in his ability to combine a vast array of elements. Created in 1984, Then Came a Stick and Beat the Dog, 1984 from Illustrations After El Lissitzky's Had Gadya is a hand-coloring and collage with lithograph, linocut, and silkscreen on T. H. Saunders paper (background) and shaped, hand-cut Somerset paper (collage). Hand-signed and dated by Frank Stella (Massachusetts, 1936 - ) in pencil in the lower left: ‘F. Stella ‘84’, this work is numbered from the edition of 60 in pencil in the left; published by Waddington Graphics, London. Catalogue Raisonné & COA: Frank Stella Then Came...

Guifà e la Beretta Rossa, (Guifà and the Red Cap)
Located in Palo Alto, CA
Frank Stella’s Guifà e la Beretta Rossa, (Guifà and the Red Cap), 1989, is a captivating etching made of bold colors and large-scale geometric forms. This artwork was made in collaboration with well-known print maker Kenneth Tyler. In the upper left of the image, rainbow hues of violet, blue, green and yellow decorate the paper. These colors contrast beautifully against the bold, inky strokes which color the background. Additionally, columns, pillars and cones are layered on top of one another as if in a collage. The shapes vary from perfect circles to abstract forms. Viewed in combination, the imagery dances before the viewer, inviting the imagination to construct its own interpretations. This series of mechanical shapes and 3-D composition are reminiscent of Stella’s relief paintings from the early 1980s. For an artist like Stella, experimenting with color, form and dimension is key. He proves to viewers he cannot be confined to a specific artistic genre or movement. Therefore, Stella's abstract works retain a timelessness which will transcend expectations of abstract art. Above all, this large-scale work is an exceptional example of Stella’s later period and his iconic artistic style. The artist is a master of both painting and print. Oftentimes, Stella’s prints...
