About the Item

8 colour inkjet print on cotton fiber archival paper 2011/2019 55.9 x 43.2 cm Edition of 250 Hand signed, numbered and dated by David Hockney Published by David Hockney and Taschen in 2019 From the My Window series Mint condition Hockney began drawing on his iPad in 2010, producing digital drawings that he would share with friends, an extension of his long-standing fascination with new technology as a creative tool. Throughout his career, Hockney has consistently embraced innovation to expand the boundaries of traditional art. These digital works often depict flowers and landscapes, with intricate details in the foreground, particularly plants and blossoms, set against simplified or subtly rendered backgrounds. This juxtaposition creates a sense of depth, reflective of his paintings but translated into digital form. As one of his most recent bodies of work, the iPad drawings have gained significant momentum, becoming highly sought after by collectors and institutions alike for their freshness, accessibility, and bold reimagining of contemporary image-making. David Hockney (born 1937) is one of the most influential 20th century British artists. He has explored a diverse range of techniques over the years including painting, printmaking, drawing, set design, videography, photography and digital art. He was an innovative printmaker with technology early in his career which has gained recent traction again drawing on his iPhone and iPad. Hockney explores everything from still life and domestic scenes to portraits and landscapes, whilst also addressing themes in his own life such as sexuality. Hockney’s style is iconic and recognisable with its warm feeling and lively, colourful palette. In 2018, Hockney’s Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) became the most expensive artwork by a living artist to be sold at auction when it sold in New York for $90 million. Hockney’s work is held in countless international collections and museums.
