This two color lithograph on reflective mylar with embossment is signed, dated and numbered from the limited edition of 84. This Gretchen Bender mixed media print was created as part of the 1987 portfolio "The Ten Commandments", in which ten top Jewish American artists were each invited to choose an Old Testament commandment to interpret in contemporary lithographic form. The "Chosen" artists were, in order of Commandment: Kenny Scharf, Joseph Nechvatal, Gretchen Bender, April Gornik, Robert Kushner, Nancy Spero, Vito Acconci, Jane Dickson, Judy Rifka and Richard Bosman. This lithograph is in excellent condition; unframed. This is the first time it will have been removed from the original portfolio case. (shown). Lisa Liebmann, who wrote the introduction to the collection, observed: "...The image has, for most of us, replaced the word..." With respect to the present work, she writes, "The Third Commandment, against taking the Lord's name in vain, is one of the most remote from us, and therefore open to interpretation..." Excellent original condition.

Publisher's Blurb:
In Air: 24 Hours, Jennifer Bartlett creates her most personal paintings, all made between 1991 and 1992. Here, in each work, the unflinching presence of time is carefully, conspicuously monitored by a clock - light gray for day, dark gray for night. But motifs, color combinations, even certain images variously recur throughout the 24 paintings, shaking us up, causing us to realize that even the most seemingly casual, intimate scenes (a child's bedroom, a bathroom, the garden fish...

Mountain Water Series n. I
By Christine Nguyen
Located in Los Angeles, CA

- Series of 5 original images
- Edition of 3
- Signed and numbered by artist
- Image dimensions 24" (h) x 19.8" (l); paper size: 30" (h) x 20"(l)
- Unframed print - framing available upon request
This technique was used to create an art exhibit installed at Los Angeles' Hammer Museum.
Christine Nguyen is a Los Angeles based artist. She received her B.F.A from California State University, Long Beach and M.F.A from University of California, Irvine.
As an artist, she is inspired by literature, science, nature, astronomy, geology, marine biology.
The layering of works, creating depth, process and nature are important elements of her work . For example, salt crystallization has been used on found objects and encrusted on photo based works on paper. The salt crystallization process is similar to preserving some objects, while disintegrating others with time. By incorporating salt crystals onto the photo based paintings, the image presents a mystical otherworldly feel, capturing and refracting light and the slippage of time.
Using photography’s processes as a point of departure, Christine Nguyen’s pioneering spirit led her to begin manipulating negatives and onward–creating her own by cutting, layering, and adding on. Nguyen’s subsequent explorations embrace drawing and object making alike, each body of work permeated with a sense of profound discovery.
–Julie Dickover, Associate Registrar at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles from 2003 to 2010
Her work has been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally such as at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Kunsthalle zu Kiel, Kiel, Germany; Laguna Beach Art Museum, Laguna Beach;Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena and are in many private collections.
