Hilliard Dean, '#4', color lithograph, 1970, edition not stated but small. Signed, titled, and annotated 'AP' in pencil. Dated 'May 1970' in pencil in the bottom right sheet edge. A fine impression, with fresh colors, on Arches, heavy, cream wove paper; the full sheet with margins (2 1/8 to 3 inches); minor foxing in the margins, not affecting the image; two short (1/4 inch) repaired tears in the left sheet edge, otherwise in very good condition. Printed by the artist. Archivally matted to museum standards, unframed. Image size 15 5/8 x 18 inches (397 x 457 mm); sheet size 19 7/8 x 24 inches (505 x 610 mm). ABOUT THE ARTIST Hilliard Reynolds Dean (b. 1933) is a painter and printmaker of figurative and abstract works active in the Washington DC area. His work is referenced in 'Afro-American Artists, A Bibliographical Directory,' edited by Theresa Dickason Cederholm, Boston Public Library, 1973, and in 'Free Within Ourselves: African-American Artists in the Collection of the National Museum of American Art,' 1992. Dean’s graphic works are represented in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
