Plastic Fantastic Records, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania
Rare, vintage record album by The Offs with album cover art designed by Jean-Michel Basquiat. This is THE original 1984 work with LP - NOT to be confused with one of the later or commemorative reprints, such as a 2019 edition of 500 for example. The label on the present LP inside is copyrighted 1984 as is the outside album jacket. (see photos), It also has the original label 1980s label from the famed Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania record store "Plastic Fantastic" that shuttered in 2018 after 42 years in business. This is the original first edition.
Measurements:
sleeve: 12 1/4 x 12 3/8 inches
record: 11 3/4 inches diameter
Basquiat created this original art work for the punk rock group "The Offs" in 1984. The cover shown comes with the original vinyl record - whereas many that have sold have the record remove and just sell the cover. In 1983, Jean-Michel Basquiat became friendly with the punk rock group "The Offs". He wanted to play in the band, but was not good enough. Instead he did a drawing for The Off's first record album cover and was paid $500 for his effort. Andy Warhol, who was friendly with the group's producer, arranged for Interview Magazine music critic Glenn O'Brien to write up a review of The Offs. O'Brien's review credits Basquiat with creating the album cover. Another impression of this now historic print was exhibited in New Museum show of album covers. This cover artwork was also part of the exhibitions "Vinyl - Records and Covers by Artists" in 2005 in Bremen - Germany - Neues Museum Weserburg Bremen, in 2006 in Barcelona - Spain, and 2007 in Porto - Portugal.
