About the Item

Onésime (M.1075) from 1975 is a stunningly colored lithograph by Joan Miró, limited to a small edition of 65 (50 Arabic and 15 Romans). The image size is 35.5 x 27.87 inches and the framed dimensions are 45 x 34 inches. Signed 'Miró' lower right and numbered lower left 28/50. During 1975, Miró may have had Christian saints on his mind as he created four lithographs with similar uses of iridescent, speckled areas of color along with his more iconic areas of solid reds, blues, yellows and black. Those four lithographs are Eustache (M.1024), Nestor (M.1074), Onésime (M.1075), and Vladimir (M.1083). Each presents a bird-like figure looking upwards, possibly to the heavens. Saint Onésime is associated with forgiveness and redemption. The iridescent area of color gives depth to the ground and creates texture and dimension, similar to his aquatint work. Brightly colored balls float around the figure bringing energy and additional color to the composition. Literature: Maeght (Ed.) Cramer, P. Joan Miró: Lithographs Volume V 1972-1975. Maeght Éditeur, 1992. p. 176, no. 1075.
